The “No Audio Device Error” message is usually displayed by your computer when it does not detect any properly working audio device attached to it, you will not hear any sound from your computer when this message appears unless the computer has internal speakers where you may be able to hear bleeping sounds.

Users of Windows Media Player may encounter several error messages if the computer has no audio capabilities, that is, there is no audio device in the computer, or the correct audio device driver is not installed or is disabled.

When the no audio device message is displayed by your computer system, the first step to trouble shooting is to check the BIOS set up of your computer to ensure the audio setting is set to auto. The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is the code for fundamental PC functions. To enter setup press the key (or combination of keys) that you are prompted to enter when the PC starts up. Your screen should announce which key or keys to press for Setup just after it displays the BIOS version number.

Once you have confirmed that the BIOS setting are okay, the next step is to check the audio device drivers. The audio device driver enables communication between the device and the PC. If the device driver is incompatible with the device a “no audio device” error will appear. Device Manager provides you with information about how the hardware on your computer is installed and configured, and how the hardware interacts with your computer’s programs. The Device Manager can be used to update the device drivers for hardware installed on your computer, modify hardware settings, and troubleshoot problems. If the problem is due to driver conflict, you can download the newest driver from the manufacturer’s website and install it on the computer.

Reinstall the device to see if an improper installation may have been the cause of the problem. Turn off the computer and remove the sound board. A loose or incorrect connection between the device and PC will also result in an error. Check cables to ensure they are in the correct ports and are properly connected.

Troubleshoot the “no audio device” error by connecting the device to another computer. If the error still persists it will mean that the device itself is not functioning properly and may need to be returned to the vendor.

Another way to solve the “no audio device” problem is to use an external data storage device. You will need to place the audio drivers within this external device which will then be placed within an easy to remove location in the computer. You will also need to ensure that the drivers and the software being used are compatible, once the audio device and the external data storage device have been placed in your computer test to see if the “no audio device” error is still present.
